Chicago is hard on wood. Summer sun fades it, and in winter water soaks into the boards, freezes and splits them. We start with a gentle cleaning that lifts dirt, grey weathered fibres and mildew without chewing up the wood, let the deck dry, and then apply a penetrating sealer-stain — Ready Seal or Armstrong Clark — that soaks in rather than sitting on top, so it wears away gradually instead of peeling.
